Where we live, the soil dries at an amazing rate. Mulch helps keep the moisture in the soil rather than letting it evaporate into the air. It also shades the soil, keeping it cool and dark, preventing many weed seeds from germinating. The texture of wood chips also adds a nice aesthetic finish to your garden and pathways. Let me know if I can serve you by adding these to your landscape.

Western Cedar wood chips

Christmas Tree, Coarse Ground (Seasonal)

Have the soothing scent of the forest right outside your door or in your favorite place in the yard. The fragrance is especially enchanting when the mulch is moistened after rain/snowfall.

These perennial herbs, fruits, and flowers are established outside and have born the trials of winter. They are not tender greenhouse plants. They are fully acclimated to the shocking heat and cold of the High Plains. These are transplantable whenever the soil can be worked and the daytime temperatures are mild. See list.

Why a raised bed?

When you have terrible, dense, clay soil like we do in the High Plains, a raised bed planter filled with the finest planting mix can successfully launch you to gardening success. While a raised bed does require more frequent watering, inexpensive automation controllers can relieve you of the task. New gardeners as well as old can get a lot of pleasure out of a raised bed garden.

My Special Offer

From time to time I acquire redwood that was destined for the landfill. It is the highest quality heartwood that when new sells for over $5 per linear foot of 2″ x 6″ lumber. Rustic and aged in appearance, this reclaimed redwood is sought after just for its look. I turn this wonderful rot-resistant wood into planters and compost bins. They are the most robust planters and bins in the world, I dare say. I have a compost bin I built 20 years ago out of this material, and it looks the same as the day I built it. I make these items available fully-constructed for less than the cost of the wood itself.

Experts agree you have to have a large enough mass of organic material for composting to really work. This 4’x4’x4′ bin can hold that critical mass. You will find yourself filling it, and filling it, and filling it, and wondering how the contents just seems to disappear. Bugs and worms are happily turning it into rich soil amendment a fraction of the size of the inputs. Once you’re ready to get some of this black gold, the front of the bin just lifts off. In fact, all four walls can be removed to easily disperse the contents. I’ve seen countless composters and this one is the easiest, most robust, best value (per cubic foot), most functional, and longest-lasting solution anywhere.

When you are in the garden, it is wonderful to have a work surface to trim and clean your fruits/vegetables before bringing them into the house. It is also handy to have a place in the garden to keep your buckets and tools. Such was my desire and intent when I built this table; but as soon as my wife saw it, she said she wanted it in the house.

It’s aged wood has a lot of character and feels like an old friend.

Let me know if you’d like one of these either for inside or for out. Price: $249. Custom sizes also available.
